Based in Gauteng, South Africa, The SlashDogs play flat out Rock 'n Roll - charged with the savage attack from the likes of Motorhead and Zeke, tinged with the twisted introspection of Tom Waits and poised with old school swagger from greats such as Chuck Berry and Johnny Cash. The band formed in 2003 and christened the following year with the launch of a 7" vinyl entitled "Even preachers wear black". The first full length album "Spilled blood calls for vengeance" was completed in 2005 and released on MurderCall Records under the guidance of Hanu de Jongh (The Narrow). Injury marred the launch of the first album with the drummer going in for surgery a week prior to the launch date. A replacement drummer was found and the launch went ahead. With two releases, songs featured on several compilations, hundreds of shows around the country and several performances at some of SA's biggest festivals, The SlashDogs were down but definitely not out. The following two years saw the Dogs go through numerous line-up changes, refining both the band's sound as well as its dynamic. Writing for the second album had also begun. With their third release the Slashdogs aim to take hold of their new-found momentum by gigging and touring extensively as well as preparing to record a four track split over December 2008. The third release, "Hunger" was completed in August of 2008 after a year of production. The album will be published by Flag Music, administered by the EMusic Group and will be in store early October 2008. A music video for the first single is being shot in September by Ample Fire Productions, with planning for another two to be filmed later in the year. The first single is scheduled to play on college radio stations in Johannesburg and Pretoria by the end of September with the Cape and Durban to follow. The Dogs have established themselves as an uncompromising rock'n roll force in the growing South African music industry. "The SlashDogs do things differently from other South African bands... they don't give a F**K about conforming to the current `standard` rock feel that their competition is putting out. They went back to the roots of real `Rock And Roll`, learnt from it and began to play real rock and roll." (rockpulse.co.uk) "The SlashDogs rock, plain and simple, it's not punk, or metal, or grunge, the music these guys make is rock-and-roll in its purist form…and that's a beautiful thing to hear."
